Drama might be difficult if not exactly understood or if a student believes that he/she doesn’t have any acting talents. Even though, without talent, students still enjoy all the activities that have to do with acting and drama.
1. Student can take their favorite poem or a part of short story and act it out.
I had this idea from my acting class in high school where our teacher told us to pick a song to act out.
We can take that to the next level!
There is still a group activity where the students are given a short story and they have to act them out in front of other groups.
2. Back in high school my teacher showed us a really fun game.
I don't remember what it was called but I'll call it: "Survivors and Killers". The point of this game was to 'survive' and find out who the killer was.
Everyone in my class sat in the circle with our eyes closed. The teacher would choose the 'Killers' (3 or more people depending on how many students are in class).
When the teacher said: "Start" everyone opened their eyes.
The Killers 'killed' others by looking into another person's eyes. (Killer cannot be killed by another killer and cannot tell the other who the killer is).
Person whose been killed had to 'die' as dramatically as he/she could (holding the heart, scream, and other) and lay down.
The game continues until someone can find all the killers. However, if you state a killer and that person is not...you're out of the game.
In that case you can also 'fake' to be the killer, that can get someone out of the game.
3. I remember another fun Acting/Dramatic game.
This game could be played in pairs as well as in small group. Each person has to have some kind of a book.
The teacher says the topic. Example: Wedding. One of the two friends is getting married.
Two people act out however they want the dialogue to go.
However, once a while they have to open their book on whatever page and read any sentence they see.
Some dialogues get very funny and the game can go on and on.
Acted drama requires surrender of one's self, sympathetic absorption in the play as it develops.
